peanut butter-chocolate acorn cookies

Happy fall.

I think these cookies are incredibly adorable and I can’t wait to make them for a fun fall treat!

Where did I find these cute things?

Well, I recently joined the world of Pinterest (and boy, is it fun!) and that’s where I found them.

For those of you who haven’t heard of it, or have yet to check it out, I recommend you do.

It’s a super fun, incredibly creative way to explore and catalogue just about anything you like, especially delicious recipes and easy DIY crafts and home projects.

Recently, I created my very own Soul Food Recipes page that features many recipes from my blog.

My version of theses cookies would call for only three simple ingredients (this is for you Ashley!):

Nutter Butter mini sandwich cookies
Hershey Kisses
semi-sweet chocolate chips

They’d be an easy assembly and a good eat.

First, place a microwave safe plate in the microwave for about 15 seconds, or until it’s slightly heated.  Remove plate and place a few Hershey Kisses unwrapped on the plate (tip side up), just until the bottom of the Kisses becomes a touch melted.  Next place a Kiss in the center of one side of a Nutter Butter cookie.  Let them rest.  Then repeat the process, only do so with the chocolate chips.  Place one chip on the side opposite to the Kiss in the center of the cookie.  Let them rest.  Voila, you’re done!

My best friend Elizabeth (also amazing photographer) made me a batch for my birthday.  Before presenting them to me, she snapped a shot of the little cuties.  Its the one you see above!

Hope these cookies make you happy too.  Enjoy!

I noticed in the pic that some have the whole 2 layer cookie & some on have 1 layer of the cookie…..does one look better than the other when they’re done or should you do both & have a mix? Thanks 🙂

Honestly I think you can go either way, as both looks offer something different. I think it’s just a matter of preference. However, if you do take the Nutter Butter cookies apart and use only one side per acorn, one of those sides may get all of the peanut butter filling and the other none. So if you want each acorn to have some of that filling, I’d keep them whole. Have fun! Lindsay

What is the peanut butter for?

  5. OMG!!!!!!!! These are soooo cute AND look delicious – especially if done with the dark choc hershey’s kisses.

This may be a stupid question but can i refrigerate them after making them to stay in good shape until I bring them to the party I am going to?

    • Liz – So not stupid! Questions are good! I myself have never tried putting them in the fridge after making, but I’m sure that if you did put them in the fridge but took them out an hour or two before the party so they could be brought to room temp, they’d be just fine. Let us know if it works!

  10. Oh my goodness I would have never thought of that. I love those. I am a huge Nutter Butter fan. Add chocolate in there and it is a marriage made in heaven

Where do you get the recipe?

  12. l used nutella to put chocolate chip on top and l used mini chocolate chip cookies on top. great

  13. So cute! Thanks.

I couldn’t find Nutter Butter, (I live in Canada, maybe that’s why?) so I used Ritz Crackers Smores Sandwich things! It’s a graham cracker sandwich with chocolate and marshmallow flavour in the middle. I was going to get the peanut butter ones but was worried about the salty cracker taste + peanut butter + chocolate but for some I’m sure that would work well too.

They look almost the same as yours! I’ve left them to “rest” but I’m worried that the kiss will fall off. Have you had this happen?

Way to think out side the box! I have not have had a Hershey Kiss fall off on occasion because they can be fragile little guys, but if you let them properly set or even put the in the fridge it may help prevent this! Enjoy!

gonna try these for the fall holidays ! starting with halloween and sharing them with work and granddaughters school parites! thanks.

  15. Oh my goodness, these are just too cute! I’ve got to make them. :0)

We are making these for my fall themed baby shower, i am so excited. I never would have figured out the hot plate trick i have been nervous to do this because the pinterest instructions i saw required melting down some chocolate chips to use as glue and i am notorious for making a mess or burning it. Haha thanks so much for posting this!

  17. i am always looking for cute fall treats to serve at halloween or thanksgiving. ..and i love acorns. these are perfect!

  23. I would love to make some of these to take to Thanksgiving but I think my husband would eat them all before we got there.

  24. what about peanut butter chips for the smaller end? sihin for a better way to ‘cement’ those….

like the mini choc chips cookie idea too

    • Did heating a plate in the microwave and placing the chips on the heated plate before adhering them to the cookie not work for you? Did you find anything different that did? Hope these turned out for you!

      • julie

I used a frosting cone tip thingie to put the melted choc on the cookie, like glue, and pressed the kisses and chips in place!
